Very slowly but surely my new projects advances. The thought of working for myself fills me with joy and panic in equal measures. I know that if I can get my new business up and running and put my all into it, it will give me immense pleasure.
For the last ten years I've worked with lots of different designers and I've learnt an awful lot about how to sell their work. So the idea I have is to become a commercial agent specialising in up-and-coming designers of home ware, furniture and objects.
My aim is to establish
a group of new and emerging talent, each with their own strong and distinctive
voice but with the common threads of good design, joyful use of materials and a
consideration of their environmental impact.
When I left college, I started working for myself as a jewellery designer, so I know from my own experience that it can be difficult for small design companies to juggle selling
products, design, consult on outside projects and handle all the day-to-day
practical issues. I want to work closely with designers to get a real understanding of
their products and how they like to present and sell them. For
me, it is important to present each designer as an individual, respecting the
integrity of their voice.
So far of the designers I have contacted I've had a really positive response so it seems that there is a demand for my services!
I have already started working with my very talented friend Daniel Baumann, a Swiss designer working in Paris who I met last year.
The photo is of his Casier range of storage. The perfect size for storing files and books, they are sold individually and can be stacked or wall hung. Or nested one upon the other and mounted on wheels they becomes a perfectly proportioned desk-side trolley.
There is also a range of matching accessories - Translucent doors in frosted perspex, available in clear or red, sub dividers and a rather useful "Quiver" to store papers.
